Alexa+ Certification

What Alexa+ Certification Means for You

In January 2026, My Media successfully completed Amazon's Alexa+ certification. Alexa+ (Amazon's enhanced certification programs for Alexa integrations and devices) involves a thorough set of compatibility, security and behavioral tests in coordination with Amazon's certification teams. Certification confirms that My Media meets Amazon's expectations for reliability, voice interaction correctness and a high-quality end-user experience across Alexa-enabled hardware.

Key benefits of Alexa+ certification include:

  • Improved reliability: additional testing ensures consistent responses across devices and locales.
  • Compatibility assurance: validated behavior on a range of Alexa hardware and software versions.
  • User experience quality: voice interactions have been reviewed and optimized to meet Amazon guidelines.
  • Brand trust: the Alexa+ mark signals to users that the skill/app has passed Amazon's checks.

The certification process included automated and manual tests that exercise the skill invocation, audio playback handling, metadata delivery, and how the skill responds to common voice commands and edge cases. Amazon also reviews functional behavior against their published developer guidelines to ensure a predictable, safe and secure user experience.

No My Media Update Required

Important: Alexa+ certification is a validation of our skill and integration and does not require any changes to the My Media server software versions available in the main Download section. Continue to download the same installers from the Download area - there is no new or different build required solely for Alexa+ certification.

How We Tested

Our Certification Journey

Our engineering and QA teams worked closely to prepare a comprehensive test matrix covering functional voice flows, audio streaming performance, metadata correctness, error handling and locale variations. We exercised the skill on multiple Alexa device form factors and verified the expected behavior across different network conditions. The testing also included security and privacy checks to ensure user data handled by the service follows best practices.

Amazon's certification review complemented our internal tests by verifying adherence to Alexa design guidelines and by running certification checks.

Verified Behavior

Standard playback and metadata delivery validated on multiple devices and locales.

Security & Privacy

Reviewed for safe handling of account linking and metadata; follows best practices.

Consistent UX

Voice interactions tuned to match user expectations and Amazon guidance.

Known Issues & Workarounds

If Alexa+ Doesn't Recognize My Media

Most users will immediately benefit from Alexa+ certification without any setup changes. In a small number of cases you may find that Alexa does not appear to recognize that the skill is installed or available. If that happens, please try the following steps.

Workaround:
  1. Open the Alexa app and confirm the My Media skill is enabled for the Amazon account that is linked to your Echo/Device.
  2. If Alexa still doesn't pick up the skill, open the default Amazon Music app on your device (this temporarily primes Alexa's music routing).
  3. Then try invoking My Media using the explicit invocation phrase: "Alexa, ask My Media SKILL to play <artist/album/song>" - using the word SKILL in the phrase can help disambiguate in cases where the short name collides with other services.

If those steps don't help, please try unlinking and re-linking the My Media account in the Alexa app and then re-try the invocation. If problems persist, contact support with your device type and a short description of the behavior and we will assist.
